Easy to live with, extraordinary to hear
Though the SCS (and its descendants) were certainly produced with home theater in mind, their ability to satisfy in stereo is undeniable.
We have come to associate vertically arrayed drivers on a sloped baffle with THIEL’s Coherent Source philosophy, but Jim recognized that for a bookshelf speaker to be coherent, the drivers must be coaxial and coincident due to placement variables. Once he identified this SEAS model as a candidate, the original SCS was born. I fondly remember Kathy Gornik having a pair of these in her office during my time at THIEL.
Insofar as I can discern, these two Amberwood SCS cabinets were never serial numbered meaning they were built by Rob Gillum during his ownership of Coherent Source Service. They were sold to a friend-of-the-brand and former THIEL employee who is now consigning them through us.
These have been comprehensively tested and sound exceptional and have minimal cosmetic wear commensurate with age. No grilles are available. Sold as a pair. Local pickup and shipping are OK.
